The cost of renewing a U.S. passport 

There are 2 (two) ways your passport renewal application can be processed – normal (standard) and expedited. The final cost of renewing your U.S. passport is strictly tied to the procedure you decide to follow. 

The final cost of your U.S. passport renewal is composed of 3 (three) components:

• Application fee: in simple terms, it is the cost of your passport, and its amount changes depending on which document you wish to renew. 
• Execution fee: it is a fixed fee of $35 and is only applicable for first-time applications.
• Extra fees: charged for any additional services, such as expedited service or fast delivery.    

Standard procedure for a U.S. passport renewal

The standard renewal procedure takes from 8 (eight) to 11 (eleven) weeks to process and issue your new passport, and it comes at a cost of $130 for an adult U.S. passport. This fee includes processing and issuing of your new travel document.

Following the same procedure, you can also renew your U.S. passport card—in that case the application fee is slightly lower and amounts to $30. 

Expedited procedure for a U.S. passport renewal

Expedited procedure shortens the time needed to issue your new U.S. passport to around 6 (six) weeks, and comes at an additional cost of $60 paid to the application fee, regardless of the document type. 

If you decide upon an expedited service, the final cost of an adult U.S. passport book is $190 ($130 application fee + $60 expedited service fee).

The cost of renewing a U.S. passport for a child

You cannot apply for a regular passport renewal service for your child (aged under 16)—mostly due to the fact that passports for minors are valid only for 5 (five) years, and are therefore not eligible for renewal.

If your child’s passport is expired, you have to apply for a new one using the DS-11 form (standard passport application form). The cost of a new U.S. passport for a minor is $100. However, since passport renewal for a minor will be considered a first-time passport application, you will be charged an additional fee of $35 for execution services.

The complete cost of issuing a new passport for your child is $135 ($100 application fee + $35 execution fee).

Passport delivery is valid only for mailing addresses within the United States and applies to shipping any document (passport cards are not eligible for delivery).
